For those who have seen the BSG finale. You may want to read This interview with the RDM, David Eick, Eddie Olmos and Mary McDonnel

BUT DON'T READ IT UNTIL YOU HAVE SEEN THE FINALE. There are some great bits in there and answer some questions that may still linger.

For those who wish to discuss the show with me, please use this thread to do so. Warning, I will not hold any spoilers back in discussions.

that doesn't explain the this-earth constellations viewable from other-earth.

which is the only thing that had me weirded out by the prospect of them ending up on Earth-earth. other-earth had our constellations as well....

What needs to be explained?

The Cylon Earth was a planet close enough to our earth that could use the same constellations.

Kara found that earth using the tomb of Athena charts and her own universe guiding.

I don't think constellations work like that.... But I could be wrong.

-I don't think we ever saw all 12 constellations from the map being represented in the show. Lets just for shits and giggles say that Cylon Earth is over on Alpha Centauri (ignore please its binary system.) it is close enough to our own that many of the constellations would appear and could be used as confirmation.

-IIRC,When we jumped to Cylon Earth, they confirmed only what Kara's recon pictures proved.

-Also, if you accept that a "divine hand" played a part in making this all go... who is to say that even if the earth in the map room was supposed to be Cylon Earth, we were still shown constellations as they appear from our POV here.

The viewing/map room showed all the constellations with their original (Earth-en) names, the ones that gave the names to the 12 colonies. They were all shown as being viewed from the viewpoint of standing on Earth. How is that at all a useful key if it's not unique?

Are you suggesting that despite the key, Kara somehow flubbed and brought them to a different Earth? I thought they mentioned on that landed-on-Earth ep that the constellations did match?

I still dont think we saw ALL 12 in the map room. That map room was key to finding Cylon Earth. The constellations being close enough to our earth is just a nice coincidence. I will go back tonight and check episode 410, but I seem to recall them not giving massive confirmation of constellations.

The music is the true key. "It's sort of a connection of the divine and the mortal." Using the song provided by Hera, with a little help from her Daddy's ghost and SamintheTub Kara was able to work math into the song. Using that equation she used them as jump coordinates to bring them here. Not so much a flub that she brought them here, but allowing the Universe's desire to give "course correction" to flow through her to make it happen.

I mean, it is possible that the map room was actually a roadmap to Earth-earth and they just got slightly misdirected (via Kara's teleportation/death magic) and ended up at Cylon-earth... The Divine intervention thing really does have huge impact -- obviously. I agree, the music was the true key -- to Earth-earth, which is the earth that the dying leader found.... It's all tricksy.

Technically, the constellations only got them to the Lagoon Nebula (that Lee found in the map room) and then from there they would have to pinpoint the actual location (temple of 5, supernova, etc)

I still buy the "our earth is close enough" thinking. Cosmically, we cant have been that far away (just think of the range of Colonial Jump engines) to be able to make it. On a relative level Cylon Earth and Our Earth are really just across the street.

In episode 410, Gaeta does confirm the constellations match. All he says is "constellations" (so take that as you will)

In regards to the Tomb of Athena, in the commentary for that episode the following is said"
"The producers have acknowledged that the twelve constellations of the Zodiac are never actually all visible at once in the night sky, but rather rotate around the north star throughout the night. The constellations were displayed as in the hologram for dramatic and informative purposes."

So take that as you will also.

I think the commentary is just saying that we only ever have a partial view of the night sky so the holo-room is just a fancy key of something that one can never actually see while standing on the big rock.

Strong work, sir.

While I agree that logic works... knowing fully well how much RDM LOVES to give half truths and bend the words he uses when he does lie I see extra flub space available in that to help prove my thinking.

very interesting read, some good explanations there. I guess I do fall into the camp of WTF Kara, I wish they hadn't left it so open-ended, but it sounds like that was exactly the effect they were going for.

I think open-ended is the only way to go really. I see it as a numbers game:

Define exactly what Kara is (even if it doesnt make sense) and you piss off a certain percentage.

Give some vague idea of what she is and leave it up to interpretation and you piss off a much smaller percentage.

(personally, I felt her definition was alot more concrete than others think)
